2016 Cheshire Oset Cup Round 2, Report, Results and Video

Warmingham lane Motocross track in Middlewich, Cheshire, usually echos to the sound of 2 & 4 stroke motocross machines being thrashed to within an inch of their lives. On April 10th 2016 the venue fell silent and only the whir of electric trials bikes could be heard as 47 bikes headed in to contest round 2 of the 2 Machs Motorcycles, Cheshire Oset Cup. Great weather welcomed riders of all abilities several of which had competed in the Youth National, held the previous day. In equal numbers others were taking part in their first or second ever trial.

Kieran Skehan continued his winning ways in the Expert class, a slippery turn on section two took most of his 11 mark loss for the day. Close behind was 2015 intermediate champion Jack Long. The Cumbrian coped better in the mud but a costly 5 on the tricky turns/bumps of section four dropped the youngster to 3 marks greater than Kieran. Stefan Jones continues to impress and closely followed in third place on 19 marks.

Dylan Ratcliffe won the C class inters on just 4 marks from the ever improving Ellie Molyneaux on 7. Callum Heath had a great ride to finish in third place from Dan Douglas in fourth.

Aidan Williams took the C class novices by storm, losing just 15 marks. Section 2 for the Novices turned into something resembling a mud bath after the heavy overnight rain. Most of the field lost either a three or a five with plenty of paddling, but Aidan showed that it could be done with a clean on his first lap. James Wyatt continued his run of improvement finishing second on 42, closely followed by newcomer Keeva Wilcock, sharing her brothers Oset 20, on 49.

Joe Chard aced his way to the top of the D class inters championship dropping just 3 marks. Ellis Barton followed with another good ride, after losing 6 marks on section one, Ellis recovered excellently to finish on 9 in total. Corey Shepherd finished in third place just two marks ahead of, another rider fresh from his first national contest, Oliver Arkwright.

oe Stubbings impressed with his win in the D class novice. Showing some real determination through the mud and lost 16 marks for the day. The next two podium spots were very closely fought. Toby Tyson took second on 30 followed by a big step forward for Owen Good on 31. Jobe Griffiths enjoyed getting the muddiest out of the whole field on his way to a 34 mark total, taking fourth from Sam Long with the most cleans. Bailey Holmes followed on 35 and, round one winner, Milly Powell in seventh on 40.

Oliver Critchley took the E class novice honours with a great effort to get to the finish given that some of the muddy sections were virtually submerging the wheels of his 12.5 Racing.

Thanks to all of those who gave up their time to observe, all sections were manned which made for a fair and smooth running trial for all.

The series now heads to the Alvanley Trials ground, near Frodsham, on May 15th.
