Cheshire Oset Cup 2017 Round 4

Oset Cheshire Cup 2017 Round 4

The 2 Machs Motorcycles Cheshire Oset Cup series continued on Sunday June 18th. Round 4 of the 2017 championship took place at Hales Bike and Board Park, near Chester in sweltering conditions. A testament to the determination of the young riders, wearing full riding gear in 30 degree temperatures and fierce sunshine. The sections were a good range of tight and twisty, coupled with some steps and banks for the Experts and Inters.

Dylan Ratcliffe had his first win of the year in the Expert class aboard his Oset 24. Dylan and Ellis Barton tied on 25 marks lost with Dylan taking the advantage by way of most cleans. Great rides on section one were the deciding factor for Dylan. Ellis Barton though showed great skill, having collected a new Oset 20 Racing the day before the event. Stepping up from the 20 lite that he has ridden, very successfully for the last 18 months, it was a tall order jumping on a new larger bike but this clearly wasn’t an issue for young Ellis. Callum Heath had a great ride to get his first podium finish of the year in the Expert class, creeping his way up the leader board and finishing on 40 marks. 2 marks further back was Ethan Richardson, well done to all.

Aidan Williams continued his domination of the C class Intermediates with another win, 7 marks dropped. Dan Douglas kept his good form going, finishing on 17 marks in a good second place. Liam Campbell, after riding some competitions on his road cycling bike, showed that his trials ability was still alive and kicking finishing in the final podium spot just one mark behind Dan. Ewan white had a good ride to finish fourth on 25 marks.

The C Class novices was once again won by James Wyatt on 22 marks. Closely followed by Luke Robinson-Gerrard, continuing to improve in his first full season on 29 marks. A tight fight for the podium with Jake Horrocks taking third just one mark further back.

Joe Stubbings won the D class Intermediates with a very low score. Some very tricky sections were laid out on Sunday so to come away with just 3 marks lost was an exceptional ride. Owen Good had his best ride of the series so far, dropping just 4 marks, on any other day this would have probably been enough for a win but Joe just pipped him. Owen is clearly getting used to his new Oset 24 and builds in confidence at each event. Isaac Tilson is another rider on a new machine for this season and is certainly making the most of it, finishing in third place on 13 marks. Picking himself up from a big crash after the “section ends” cards on section 3 took some steely determination. Jack Gould is working his way up the leaderboard with a good fourth place finish.

Taking his second trip of the season to the podium was Dempsey Pickup, in his first season of trials a good ride to take the win and finish on 10 marks. Dominic Crossley followed on 15 marks lost. With Ted Jones in third on 20, a close fought thing with Ryan Ratcliffe in fourth on 21.

E Class novice is always great to watch, the four year old riders just know how to enjoy themselves. Cameron Batty won his first trial of the series on 26 marks. Tied at the top of the score sheet with Rylan Pickup, Cameron took the result by way of most cleans. Jody Dawson completed the podium on 44 marks, with Ioan Lloyd following in fourth on 53.

Great rides from the whole field, I’m sure most finished the day with a well deserved ice cream! Thanks very much to all of the observers who stood out with no shade to hide in and to Matt Barber for his help marking out on the Saturday (which wasn’t any cooler!). A get well soon message goes out to D class Intermediate front runner Molly Barber who has broken her wrist doing Gymnastics, we hope to see you at the next round Molly.

On that subject the next round of the series isn’t until after the summer break on September 24th, the venue for which is to be confirmed.

Before that though, we will be running an open practice day on July 9th at the Alvanley Trials Ground.

Hope to see you all there.
